This autumn, York is set to come alive with an enchanting event that blends history, art, and a touch of the supernatural. From 19th September, 70 ghostly sculptures will be scattered across the city, inviting both locals and visitors to explore York in a whole new way.

The Ghosts in the Gardens trail will feature a unique collection of 70 ethereal sculptures made from wire mesh. These ghostly figures will appear in various locations around York, including our lovely Goodramgate. Some of the sculptures will be in familiar spots, while others will pop up in surprising new places, adding an element of discovery for those familiar with the city.

Among the sculptures, there will be ten brand-new ghosts joining some beloved characters from York’s past. Each sculpture tells a story, bringing to life fascinating figures from history. For instance, past characters have included a bear that once lived in the Museum Gardens menagerie and a Georgian stonemason inspired by Mary Anne Fisher, who has connections to Holy Trinity Church.
